FertiCovery has been spotlighted by the European Commission in its Stories series, which showcases inspiring projects, innovations, entrepreneurs and rural communities driving the future of European agriculture.

The story, From waste to resource: how livestock manure can help close Europe’s nutrient loop, highlights how innovative nutrient recovery solutions are helping transform livestock manure into a valuable resource for sustainable agriculture. It explores how circular approaches can reduce Europe’s dependence on imported mineral fertilisers, improve nutrient management and contribute to healthier soils and a more resilient food system.

As highlighted by DG AGRI, FertiCovery is identifying and evaluating examples of technologies that recover nutrients from livestock manure, wastewater and other biowaste streams. One of the project’s key achievements has been the assessment of more than 150 nutrient recovery technologies, leading to the selection of 25 promising value chains that are being evaluated for their technical, environmental and market potential. These solutions are now available through the FertiCovery online catalogue, providing valuable guidance for farmers, industry stakeholders and policymakers.
