From food industry residues to energy and fertiliser – the process
The process is based on anaerobic digestion and resource recovery and includes the following steps:
- Reception and pre-treatment
Organic waste from the food industry is collected and prepared for processing. - Anaerobic digestion (AD)
The material is processed in sealed digesters, where microorganisms break it down and produce biogas rich in methane. - Energy production
The biogas is used on-site to generate renewable electricity. The heat produced is recovered and converted into steam and process water for industrial use. - Digestate recovery
The remaining material (digestate) is stabilised.
The final product
In addition, the process produces:
- Renewable electricity
- Recovered heat, steam and process water for industrial applications
