Stripping and scrubbing of wastewater for ammonium nitrate/sulphate production

This technology captures ammonia from nitrogen-rich liquid waste streams and converts it into a marketable ammonium fertiliser.

Recovering nitrogen as a valuable fertiliser – the process

The process is based on stripping and scrubbing:

  1. Pre-heating and pH adjustment through CO2 stripping
The liquid stream is heated and conditioned to enhance ammonia release.
  2. Ammonia stripping
Ammonia is transferred from the liquid into an air stream.
  3. Acid scrubbing
The ammonia reacts with acid to form an ammonium salt solution.

The final product: Ammonium salt solution (ammonium nitrate) used as liquid nitrogen fertiliser.
